Eunsun Kim was born in North Korea, one of the most repressive regimes in the world. At the age of 11, she lost her father and grandparents to starvation during the great famine of the 1990s. After years of suffering and near-death experiences, she, along with her mother and sister, embarked on a perilous journey to escape North Korea. The family faced traffickers, imprisonment, and crossed the Gobi Desert on foot before finally reaching freedom in South Korea. Eunsun’s story is a testament to survival and resilience under unimaginable conditions. Today, she lives in Seoul and advocates for human rights in North Korea.
